Our story

In 2021 six of us shared a birthday dinner in Hackney. The bill came to £111, one card went down, and it took three weeks, two spreadsheets and a slightly tense group chat to square it. Nobody was being difficult. The tools were.

So we built the thing we wanted at that table: tap a friend, send their share, done before dessert. Pots, the card and the live feed came later, each one from a moment when money got in the way of the people we like.

London · Lisbon · Since 2021

Where it started

2021 → today

Every feature began as a small, awkward moment between people who like each other.

  1. The £111 dinner

Six friends, one bill, three weeks of reminders. Two of us start sketching the split screen on the bus home.

  2. The first thousand tables

Florin opens to friends of friends. The first real bill is split in a ramen bar in Soho, in 38 seconds flat.

  3. Pots arrive

Flatmates ask for somewhere to keep the rent. Shared pots launch in spring, and the holiday pot follows a month later.

  4. One card, every currency

The Florin card ships. Its first trip abroad is a rainy long weekend in Lisbon, where we end up opening a second office.

  5. Five tools, one rule

Dinners, rent, trips and gifts, squared in well under a minute. The rule has not changed: nobody should have to chase a friend.

The team

Forty-six of us in London and Lisbon. These six you are most likely to hear from.

We used to spend ten minutes at the end of every meal doing sums on a napkin. Now the bill is split before the card machine reaches the table, and I have not sent an awkward reminder in a year.

Three of us share a flat and one pot. Rent, broadband and the cleaner all leave it on the 1st, and the feed shows exactly who has paid in. It ended the monthly spreadsheet.

Used the card for nine days in Portugal and Spain. I got the rate on the screen every time, and splitting a seafood dinner in euros took the same two taps as a pizza at home.

The holiday pot is the feature I did not know I needed. Four of us put in £80 a month and watched it fill. By July the villa was paid for and nobody had to front anything.

My partner and I keep our own accounts and one shared pot for the house. Groceries come out of it, we each top it up on payday, and money has stopped being a conversation.

I organise the five-a-side kitty and every leaving present at work. Twelve people, one link, everyone paid inside the hour. I froze my card from the pitch once and thawed it at home.
